2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GT
For cruising the strip and grabbing stares, Blair needed an entertainment system that would turn heads and snap necks. He took the Eclipse to Audio Xtreme in Williamsport, Pa. A full custom fiberglass enclosed system was built and painted Dove White again to match the body. At the heart of the system is an Alpine CVA 1005 in-dash multimedia center and an Alpine digital EQ controlling an in-dash DVD/CD/VCD/MP3 player. From those brains, the sounds exit through a set of Lightning Audio 6.5-in Storm component speakers and a Strike 10-in SVC subwoofer. Power is delivered for all those tunes by a Storm class AB 4-channel amplifier and a Strike digital 1.0 farad cap. All the stock equipment for the stereo was replaced, even all the wiring. Speaker signals are delivered throughout the car with Lightning Audio speaker wire, power blocks and battery clamps.
With all this equipment weighing down the car, Blair knew he needed more go with his show. Eager to dig into the unproven 3.0L 24V SOHC V6 engine of the Eclipse GT, Blair added a Nitrous Express stage 1 wet kit. Set to deliver a 100-shot of nitrous, the Mitsubishi was hooked up with two 5-lb nitrous bottles. Downwind of all that N2O is a bored out 62mm ProFlow Design throttle body. Upwind of all that N2O is an Injen polished short intake with polished heat shield. The job of breathing out the spent gases fell to a Thermal Research & Engineering stainless steel catback exhaust system. Featuring 2.75-in diameter piping and a 3-in exhaust tip, the system promises a solid power gain. Engine dress-up consists of a StreetGlow chrome wire loomz kit, Injen oil cap, polished fuse box cover and a huge amount of custom chromed or polished engine compartment pieces. The intake manifold, front strut bar, radiator brackets, hood prop, brake fluid bracket, battery bracket, breather cover, radiator hose, stereo fuse bracket, exhaust manifold cover and fluid containers all received some sort of polishing, chrome coating, or chrome cover. That's a lot of shine.
A car that is street driven whenever the sun is out blazing, this Eclipse also received a few choice suspension upgrades. Filling those fender flares and that mean body kit is a set of HP Racing EVO rims, sized 19x8.5-in all around. Gripped around those nineteen's is a set of 235/35R19 Toyo Proxes T1-S tires. With the new body kit, larger wheels, and stock fender gap, the Eclipse just looked ridiculous. A set of B&G Suspension performance lowering springs dropped the Eclipse 1.75-in all around, perfectly filling the wheel-wells. Lurking behind those 19-in rims is a Stainless Steel Corporation big brake kit with 13.5-in slotted rotors, 2-piston calipers, and stainless steel braided brake lines. All these stop and go parts are connected to the driver through a B&M short shifter.
The work and originality of Blair's Eclipse Spyder GT has paid off. To date, this convertible has won 1st place all Mitsubishi class Tuner Invasion, 1st place all diamond class IDRC East Coast Finals, and 1st place 2000+ Mitsubishi conservative class NOPI Nationals. But don't worry, Blair has more planned for this car; more upgrades to bring out the best of the third generation.
