2NR: I was told the rear suspension design is a completely new concept which will eliminate the need for wheelie bars in the near future. Is this correct?
DH: That's the goal we have, to come to a point where we created and designed a rear suspension that eliminates the use of a wheelie bar. I think ultimately people will come to appreciate a car that can maximize its capabilities without the use of a wheelie bar and has the look of a more street able car. Now we are not saying we won't use a wheelie bar because we do have the provisions setup currently for a wheelie bar on project Delta if we do decide on using one. It basically comes down to what our 60 foot time's look like when we do our shakedown runs in two weeks. If the car picks up two tenths of a second then of course we will use one but if there are no advantages then why bother?
2NR: Which drivers or driver in the industry do you believe has their shit together in import drag racing?
DH: Eric Aguilar is going fast; we have to give him all the credit in the world. For running the times he has been running and being consistent over the years we commend him. I think anyone who is running fast in the all motor class should be applauded. For the individuals who run in the all motor class I think their thought process is more for the love than for the glory. You look at the hot rod class and pro FWD modified classes, which are always talked about by race fans, where as the all motor class is always going to be one to two seconds slower than the turbo cars. All motor fans are die hard fans and appreciate the fact that someone can run 9.99 e.t. rather than seven seconds in a class and to me those are the die hard enthusiasts.
2NR: Skunk2 recently had a media day which 2NR editors Jason and Gary went head to head with other magazine editors racing the Skunk2 carts. What do you think of Jason and Gary's driving skills?Both Dave and Frank Balough begin laughing and sarcastically Frank responds, "Oh they were great!" Dave smirks and finally manages to keep a straight face.
DH: I don't know but a lot of those guys were mowing the dirt. Jason has some ability but his baggy pants kept going over the intake so we finally taped up his pants.
2NR: Well Gary is claiming that he can smoke both you guys.
DH: Well you can just tell Gary we both laughed at him. Let's put it this way. Before that event neither of those carts has ever seen dirt before and after the event when we were cleaning the carts we thought to ourselves, "How the hell did dirt ever get in here?" It sounds like Gary and Jason want a rematch with us. We can do that. Tell them we will be more than happy to accept their challenge (laughing). Just make sure they bring their own carts next time and lots of money!
