With all the hype and hoopla surrounding EA's newest NFS game as of late, we feel it only right to pause and give credit to the game that started it all: Sony Computer Entertainment and Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo. While our years spent playing the game may seem like one big blur in retrospect, the reasons we still love the GT series are crystal-at the top of the list, fans of the game actually have a chance to be a part of it! The 2007 SEMA Show hosted the fifth annual GT awards, where attending exhibitors in five categories of automotive customization were invited to enter for a chance at having their cars modeled into the next iteration of Gran Turismo. Once panels of automotive journalists chose one finalist in each of the five categories, Gran Turismo creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, selected a winner to be awarded virtual production. Yours truly, the Import Tuner staff, was given the honor of selecting the "Best Japanese Import", to which we identified GReddy's turbo, widebody "Total Tune Up" 350Z. One of the best imports of the entire show, we feel the purposefully built Z could undeniably kick its share of ass on-track, in either the material or virtual world. Sadly, Yamauchi-san didn't agree, and top honors were awarded to Marcel Horn for his '07 Audi TT. www.gran-turismo.com
