Turbulence
DJ Turbulence
I gotta tell ya, there's nothing like a little turbulence to wake your ass up. Thirty songs in a little less than an hour and fifteen minutes? No yelling? Dope blends and scratch transitions? Hot "sure-to-love" cuts to get your girls to "pop them thangs?" What else do you need to know to get out and buy this CD? The real shiners on this one are: "Guess Who's Back" (Game f/ Dr. Dre), "Do That" (Bishop Lamont), "Be Like Hov" (Jay-Z), "Only In L.A. Remix" (Damani f/ Daz & WC), "How They Do It" (Talib Kweli, Hi-Tek, Slim Thug & Snoop Dogg), and "Maybe Remix" (Pharrell). I think his only mistake was giving 50 Cent 3 minutes.

Metal Fingers presents Special Herbs Box Set
Mf Doom
As one half of the early '90s duo, KMD (back then known as ZevLove X with brother Subroc, and Onyx) got his first break on the 3rd Bass single "The Gas Face." KMD was dropped from Electra because of controversial lyrics and album art-the unreleased album was called "Bla_k B_st_rds" and showed a Sambo figure hanging as in "hangman." Subroc died soon after in a car accident and ZevLove X went into hiding. MF Doom obscurely reemerged 5 years later and not only pushed forward-he seemingly is pushing fast-forward. Check out the releases and the time span between each release. In 2001, "Operation: Doomsday"; in 2002, "Special Herbs (SH) 1 & 2"; in 2003, "SH 3 & 4", "Vaudeville Villian" (under the name Viktor Vaughn), "Take Me to Your Leader" (under the name King Geedorah); in 2004, "SH 5 & 6", "SH 7 & 8", "Venomous Villain" (under the name Viktor Vaughn), "Madvillainy" (with Madlib); in 2005, "The Mouse & The Mask" (with Danger Mouse), "MM..Food?"(05), "SH 9 & 0." That's about 15 known projects in 16 years-13 in the last 6. Don't go thinking that quantity has sacrificed the quality. People are still searching for that "Bla_k B_st_rds" LP. If anyone deserves an award, it's The Mask.

The People Vs
Trick Trick
Trick Trick's Detroit City roots made it easy to feature collaborations the Motor City's more note-worthy emcees like Eminem (Welcome 2 Detroit), Proof (No More To Say with Eminem), his brother Diezal (Let's Scrap), and Obie Trice (War). Hotlanta's Jazzy Pha (Attitude Adjustment) even got a spot. His rap patterns and cadence is kinda like Scarface if he did crunk music-all good music and nice cuts on this album. "The People Vs." is severely under-promoted. His indie album has sold over 4 million copies-and you should know the indie currency exchange is very rewarding) so there's no doubt that he's a proven seller. Check out his Wonderboy Entertainment Mixtape.

Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
Arctic Monkeys
I got turned on to the Arctic Monkeys about a month back when Neil from Panther Media Group-with a bunch of crazies and on the way to some Hollywood Bar-sang and acted out "When The Sun Goes Down." It was like my own personal music video. It's been a while since I've played-and actually listened and sang along to-an entire album beginning to end. Finding those personal classics are hard to come and the dog's bollocks when I do. With their good-ass songs-witty lyrics, upbeat Beatle-esque music-the Arctic Monkeys are my pick for "personal classics of 2006." As long as they get a decent marketing push, there is no doubt that this UK band will do phenomenally in '06.
