A complete show car through and through, which has won Hottest Scion at HIN and Best Scion at Import Showoff, this tC does not have a single untouched area. The interior is a mixture of Sparco and electronics, all carefully custom installed. The front seats are Sparco Monza units, with the rear seats covered in matching Sparco fabric by Kreative Auto Interior. The steering wheel is a quick release equipped Sparco unit, with the requisite pedals and racing harnesses to match. TWM provided the short shifter and shift knob, which gives this tC a crisper, more precise shifting feel than your normal factory Scion. Looking towards the dash, the custom center gauge pod is by Audio Excellence, and holds 2 and 1/16-inch Stewart Warner EGT, oil pressure, boost, temperature, and digital tachometer gauges, along with a single 5.8-inch Blaupunkt IVMS-5802 LCD display.
Installed by Form N Function and Audio Excellence, the in-car entertainment system is all Blaupunkt and bumps big power. Fed by an Optima battery, the brain of the system is a Blaupunkt IVDM-7002 DVD-capable motorized LCD headunit, which feeds into 6.5-inch Vc660 component speakers. Three Blaupunkt Vw1000 10-inch subwoofers provide the bass, while three VA4100 four-channel amps and one VA1400 single channel 400W amplifier rip out the juice. Tsunami comp series wiring, capacitors, and a RM9100 distribution system make sure the system runs smoothly at all times, while R-Blox sound deadener and two more hatch mounted Blaupunkt IVMS-5802 LCD monitors finish off the system. Ready to open up and blast tunes while on display at any car show, Yurcich's tC has better sounds than most homes, and is probably more plush too.
Scion's aren't that fast, they aren't meant to be. Plus, with hundreds of pounds of bodywork and stereo equipment on board, this tC isn't fooling anybody. That is, until you open the hood and see the turbocharger staring back at you in the face. Following the fabrication of their Scion tC kit, turbo experts Turbonetics intended to use Yurcich's car as the test bed to make sure everything fit correctly before going to production. Unfortunately, the SEMA show crunch meant that Turbonetics and Yurcich were unable to take their time properly adjusting and fitting the pre-production turbo kit. With what parts he could grab in hand, Yurcich went to Millenium Motorsports to finish off his turbo setup. Fabricating the fittings and pieces Yurcich had been missing, Millenium Motorsports completed the turbo tC in time for the SEMA show, and the rest is history.
Ready for production and sale before you even read this, the Turbonetics Scion tC kit is based around a ceramic ball-bearing T3/T4 E-50 turbocharger. Hung on a cast exhaust manifold, the turbo blasts into a stainless downpipe and wastegate dump tube, which has the proper placement for an Evolution external wastegate. On the cold side, the kit breathes in through a large K&N air filter, with the all clamps, silicone hoses, and fittings you'll ever need to put together your own turbo Scion. The front-mount intercooler is a Spearco unit, which is chilled with a Nitrous Xpress spray bar kit in Yurcich's case. Snaking through the engine bay, the intercooler piping is all mandrel bent aluminum, with a black chrome finish for extra bling. Yurcich also makes use of a Borla exhaust, Hose Techniques silicone engine hoses, and unbreakable Pi-Thon HoseLocks clamps. Unorthodox Racing provided the horsepower-squeezing underdrive pulleys and RPM-zinging lightweight flywheel, while a C&R/Visteon aluminum radiator keeps the boosted four-cylinder in check. The engine management for this setup remains the Turbonetics provided Unichip engine management system, with four drop-in Motron fuel injectors providing the extra required fuel.
With a boosted, stretched out, sparkling Scion tC, Yurcich can now rest assured that his project is completed. Having already captured numerous "Best Scion" and "Best tC" awards up and down the West Coast, this tC is an example of one of the finest Scion's cruising through the show scene today. But as the PR manager at WTW Corp., the makers of "as seen on MTV Cribs," Giovanna Wheels, Yurcich has his heart set on a new project, possibly one of the latest offerings from Lexus. How strange, the man just can't stop creating badass versions of Toyota offshoots. Not that we're complaining.
